With support from state and local leaders, the company celebrates the official launch of reliable, high-speed fiber network and donates to nonprofit during ribbon-cutting event

Charlotte, N.C. Wednesday, August 21, 2024 – Today, Brightspeed, one of the nation’s largest fiber broadband builders, marked an important milestone in its fiber broadband build across Pennsylvania with a ribbon-cutting event at New Bloomfield Park. Joined by U.S. Congressman John Joyce, State Senator Greg Rothman, State Representative Perry Stambaugh, the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) and other local dignitaries, the company officially launched its state-of-the-art, high-speed Brightspeed Fiber Internet service that will soon be available to nearly 50,000 homes and businesses in Adams, Cumberland and Perry Counties. Additionally, more than $780,000 in grant funding from the PBDA will augment the company’s planned fiber network build by another 340 locations in Perry County, one of 11 counties in the state where more than 50 percent of tested broadband connections were measured as ‘unserved,’ having internet speeds below 25/3 Mbps.

“One of my top priorities in Congress is closing the digital divide and ensuring that every family and business across our district has fast, affordable and reliable internet access,” remarked U.S. Congressman John Joyce during the event. “Right now, more than 318,000 Pennsylvanians do not have access to fast and reliable internet. It’s time to work together through public-private partnerships that can deliver results for the families and communities in our district.”

Brightspeed is dedicated to deploying next-generation, fiber-optic technology to build a more reliable, super-fast broadband internet network that will reach more homes and businesses in these Pennsylvania communities — a state that ranks 12th in the nation when it comes to internet coverage, speed and availability according to BroadbandNow. “In today’s world, Pennsylvania residents cannot run a business without reliable internet. Strong internet is no longer a luxury – it is a necessity, crucial to successfully participating in our digital economy,” says John Mizerak, director of Government Affairs at Brightspeed. “Roughly five in ten Pennsylvania residents cannot purchase a fiber internet plan, and Brightspeed is committed to changing that by increasing availability, accessibility, and affordability of high-speed, high-quality fiber broadband.”

In addition to honoring this milestone, Brightspeed presented a $2,500 donation to Communities In Schools PA, a nonprofit committed to providing resources and enhancing educational success for students across Pennsylvania.
