Company Launches Multi-Year Plan for 2K+ FTTT Installs Across its Metro Ethernet Network

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —April 10, 2024 — Brightspeed, the nation’s fourth largest fiber broadband builder, announced that it has launched fiber connectivity supporting 10 gigabit bandwidth to a wireless tower for one of the nation’s largest wireless service providers. The wireless service provider, one of Brightspeed’s wholesale customers, can now provide higher bandwidth to consumers in Johnson City, Tennessee. This is the first of 2,400 towers across 32 Brightspeed markets in 16 states with expanded capabilities — aligning with approximately 90 percent of the company’s wireless customer base.

“This is just the beginning of our plan to align our fiber build investment with the strategy of our enterprise, wholesale and wireless customers, the nation’s largest cell service providers” said Jeff Lowney, president, Enterprise & Wholesale. “By using next generation technology, we are able to provide customers with the capabilities they need now and well into the future as demand grows for higher bandwidth.” This multi-year plan provides geo-diversity for Brightspeed’s network and enables a more resilient infrastructure.

Brightspeed’s 10G product offering is currently available to 2,400 towers with thousands more fiber-to-the-tower locations on the horizon. The new product is supported by a 100G bandwidth core and development is underway for state-of-the-art technology to enable up to 400G core capacity.

Brightspeed is investing $2 billion in deploying next-generation fiber-optic technology to build a more reliable, super-fast broadband internet network that will reach more than three million homes and businesses across 20 states. In addition to the company’s multi-billion-dollar investment in deploying its fiber broadband network to homes, businesses and its metro ethernet network, Brightspeed continues to pursue additional state and federal funding to augment its current fiber network build plan to help close the states’ digital divide.
