Company’s powerful connectivity fueling opportunity and connection for Beaufort County

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — May 21, 2025 — Brightspeed, the nation’s third-largest fiber broadband builder, is connecting thousands across South Carolina’s Lowcountry to its state-of-the-art, high-speed fiber network. Nearly 10,000 homes and businesses in and around the city of Beaufort now have access to the country’s fastest internet service, as determined by HighSpeedInternet.com Annual Service Provider Review 2025, and more locations are coming online every day.

Only 46% of South Carolina’s population has access to fiber-optic services, according to Broadband Now. That means more than 5 in 10 residents cannot purchase a fiber internet plan and are missing out on the kind of connectivity they will need to thrive in today’s economy. By the end of Brightspeed’s full buildout, more than 16,500 locations across Beaufort will have access to Brightspeed’s fiber network, opening up new opportunities for remote workers, families, entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Brightspeed continues to pursue state and federal grants and funds to further augment its planned build in the states that it serves, including South Carolina. In the Palmetto state, Brightspeed has been awarded more than $3.8 million to connect nearly 5,200 locations to its high-speed network. Including these grant supplemented builds, the company will reach more than 50,000 locations across the state once its fiber network is complete.
