With support from state and local leaders, the company celebrates firing up its reliable, high-speed fiber network and donates to nonprofit during ribbon cutting event
Killeen, TX – November 18, 2024 – Today, Brightspeed, one of the nation’s largest fiber broadband builders, marked an important milestone in Killeen, Texas. With the iconic Historic Downtown Killeen mural as the backdrop, Senator Pete Flores (TX-District 42), Killeen Mayor Debbie Nash-King, community partners and other local dignitaries joined the company to officially launch its state-of-the-art, high-speed fiber internet service.
Brightspeed’s network now reaches more than 35,000 homes and businesses in Killeen and surrounding Bell County. The best part? More high-speed fiber broadband access is coming. By the end of our build, nearly 79,000 locations across the area will be connected.
“All Texans deserve to have high-speed and affordable internet. In today’s digital environment, connection is critical for education, healthcare, business, and more,” said Senator Pete Flores. “Brightspeed’s investment in broadband connectivity in Killeen is helping to empower our residents to flourish in this technology-driven economy.”
Texas currently ranks 16th in the nation when it comes to internet coverage, speed, and availability, according to BroadbandNow—with four in ten Texas residents unable to purchase a fiber internet plan. This paints a challenging picture for those who need high-speed internet to look for employment, work remotely, complete schoolwork, or use telehealth. Brightspeed believes that no community should be left behind and is dedicated to deploying next-generation, fiber-optic technology.
“In 2024, individuals cannot thrive in school or run a business without dependable internet access. Fast and reliable connectivity is no longer a luxury, but a necessity,” says Scott Stringer, government affairs regional director at Brightspeed. “We are committed to increasing residents’ and businesses’ accessibility to our fast, affordable, quality fiber broadband network across Killeen and the Greater Central Texas region.”
Beyond investing in connectivity, Brightspeed is proud to support local nonprofit Communities In Schools, Greater Central Texas. The organization provides resources and enhances educational success for students in Killeen, Bell County, and across the state. During the event, Brightspeed presented a donation of $2,500 to the organization.
