Types of underground connection

Every home is unique, and the work needed to get you connected can vary. A Brightspeed Authorized Contractor will complete the underground construction, and a Brightspeed technician will handle the fiber installation to your home.

Here are the common connection types:

Direct line

The most common type. A small trench, usually less than 6 inches deep, is dug from the street or sidewalk to your house. This trench is usually located on the same side of your house as the power connection.

In some cases, this work may happen before your fiber service is installed. In other cases, it may happen after. In the meantime, we’ll lay a temporary line on the ground, so you’ll have high-speed internet access right away.

Under the driveway

Sometimes we’ll need to run the line beneath your driveway, or even a neighbor’s driveway. If that’s the case, we’ll get the necessary permission first. This type of installation will always happen before your service is installed, usually a day or two before your installation date.

Under the street

We may need to dig beneath the road in front of your home. This requires special equipment and permits. The fiber line will then run underground to your home.
