Brightspeed Customer Proprietary Network Information (“CPNI”) Notice

CPNI and Your Privacy

At Brightspeed, we are committed to protecting your privacy. This notice explains how we use and protect your CPNI and the choices you have. Under federal law, you have a right, and we have a duty, to protect the confidentiality of CPNI.

What is “CPNI”?

Your CPNI includes details about your Brightspeed telecommunications services, such as:

  • The voice services you purchase (internet access services are not CPNI)
  • How you use those services (for example – call records)
  • Billing information related to your services (for example – telephone charges, service billing records, or directory assistance charges)

It does not include your name, address, telephone number, or internet access services.

How we use your CPNI

We may use your CPNI to:

  • Provide and manage your services
  • Respond to your questions and service requests
  • Maintain and improve our network and customer experience

We may also use this information, with your permission, to:

  • Recommend or market additional Brightspeed products and services that may be relevant to you

Your choices

You have the right to limit how we use your CPNI for marketing.

  • You can opt out at any time
  • Your decision will not affect your current services

To update your preferences, contact us using the information below.

Opting out of our use and sharing of CPNI for marketing purposes will not affect how you can use our services that you subscribe to. If you do opt out, we may still market to you, but the marketing will not be based on your CPNI.

How we protect your information

We take steps to protect your CPNI and prevent unauthorized access.

We will verify your identity before discussing or providing access to your CPNI. Depending on how you contact us, this may include:

  • A password or security question
  • A one-time passcode or call-back to your phone number on file
  • A valid photo ID (for in-person requests)

We will not release your CPNI without proper authentication, except as required by law.

When we may share your CPNI

We may share your CPNI without your permission:

  • As required by law (example – court orders)
  • To protect the safety of customers or our services (example – fraud detection)
  • To provide services and maintain network operations

Exercise your CPNI opt out

If you are a voice services customer, you can restrict our use of your CPNI by:

  • Email:  privacy@brightspeed.com. The email must include your name and account number.
  • Call: Customer care at 833-MYBRSPD (833-692-7773)

CPNI opt outs are not general marketing opt outs, please see our privacy center for information about general marketing opt outs.

CPNI responsibilities

The FCC’s rules are complex. As a telecommunications carrier, Brightspeed is subject to these requirements:

  • Proper authentication before discussing CPNI.
  • Notification when there are certain account changes.
  • Investigate and notify the account holder, FBI, FCC and Secret Service if there is unauthorized access, use or disclosure of your CPNI.
  • File an annual certification with the FCC that we have processes in place to ensure compliance with the CPNI rules.
